OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn police are wrapping up their investigation into a fight that occurred the day after Christmas, which ended with the arrest of a young adult who fired a gun into the air to scare some other teens, police said. Around 10 p.m. Dec. 26, police went to the area of 104th Street and Lavergne Avenue for a call of shots fired. Several people reported hearing gunfire coming from the south end of St. Linus School. Officers recovered five shell casings from a 9 mm handgun in the south parking lot. During a preliminary investigation, officers determined that two groups had coordinated over Snapchat to meet at St. Linus for a fight over a road rage incident that happened a few days before. A large group of kids also showed up to watch the fight and saw two cars pull into the parking lot that were involved in the original road rage incident, police said. When getting out of the car, police said an 18-year-old pulled out a handgun and fired numerous shots in the air. No one was injured. Police said they were able to identify several people involved, mostly juveniles and one adult. Jaed Abdelsamad, 18, of Chicago Ridge, admitted under questioning to firing the gun to scare the other group, police said. The Cook County assistant state's attorney approved a felony charge of reckless discharge of a firearm. Abdelsamad was released on a $10,000 I bond while his case is pending.
