TUCSON, AZ — An investigation is underway after a javelina was found hanging from a tree with multiple gunshot wounds in Tucson on Sunday. The Arizona Game and Fish Department is now offering a $1,500 reward for information that leads to an arrest in the unlawful killing. The animal was found hanging by its hind legs with a rope tied to a tree branch near Escalante Road and Cindy Lane. It had been shot several times. Game and Fish officials believe the javelina was killed a few days before it was discovered. "This was the act of a criminal, a person without regard for one of the state's most precious resources, its wildlife," Regional Supervisor Raul Vega of Game and Fish in Tucson said in a statement. "The act of hanging the javelina from the tree was a disgraceful display, and its multiple injuries suggested its death was intentional." Javelinas are found in central and southern Arizona, officials said. Anyone with information has been asked to call the Arizona Game and Fish Department's Operation Game Thief Hotline at 800-352-0700 and reference OGT #21-000162.
