NORTHPORT, AL — A Northport woman has been charged with attempted murder after shooting an ex-boyfriend in the neck last week on Highway 171. Deborah Watkins, 50, was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail Tuesday and has since been released after her bond was set at $60,000. You can also support local journalism by donating as little as $5 a month to become a supporting member or by downloading our free Patch mobile app. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit said in a press release on Wednesday that at approximately 10 p.m. on Jan. 15, sheriff's deputies responded to the 20000 block of Highway 171 on a shooting call. After finding the victim had been shot in the neck, Unit Commander Captain Jack Kennedy said the the man was airlifted to UAB and is currently in stable condition. After the Violent Crimes Unit was called to investigate the case, Kennedy said investigators learned the victim was shot by a woman he had been in a past relationship with, later identified as Watkins.
