Description
ACTON, MA — The Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee has extra security measures for its meetings following several interruptions that used racist hate speech to target Black members.
Starting on Thursday, residents who want to participate in the public comment portion of the meetings will have to email the School Committee beforehand. The emails must be received by the School Committee by 2 p.m. on the day of the meeting.
The email is: [email protected]
Over the last month, School Committee members Kyra Wilson Cook and Evelyn Abayaah-Issah, were targeted by racist hate speech during public meetings. The first incident happened in the chat channel that only committee members could see on Zoom. The second incident happened during the public comment portion of the meeting.
The incidents prompted a police investigation along with condemnations from Acton officials.
The next Acton-Boxborough Regional School Committee meeting is scheduled for Thursday.
