Description

ACTON, MA — The Acton Historical Commission is reviving a program to install markers at historic homes and structures in town. The historic house marker program was started in the 1980s and again in 2015 for the town's 275th anniversary. There are several requirements for a structure to be eligible for the program, including that it date back to or before 1935. Building owners also have to explain the structure's historical significance, falling into one or all of four categories listed by the commission: the site is tied to a historic event, person, architectural style or archeology. The full list of requirements is available online. The signs will cost $62 for 12 inches by 16 inches signs or $52 for 8 inches by 12 inches signs. The signs will be hand painted and applicants can choose from four designs made for the commission and town. The review process for applications could take between 30 and 60 days. Any questions can be directed to the Historical Commission at [email protected].
