Press release from Lindenhurst Union Free School District:
Jan. 20, 2021
Second grade students in Heather Paglino and Jennifer Corrigan's class at William Rall Elementary School in the Lindenhurst Union Free School District recently explored the message of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a unique way. As a class, the in-person students and those learning remotely, examined two eggs, one brown and one white.
The students compared and contrasted the eggs and documented the physical characteristic on a graphic organizer. The teacher then broke each egg open and students once again documented their observations. Together, the students discovered that despite looking different on the outside, the eggs were the same on the inside. Parallels were made between the eggs and people.
This lesson came on the heels of the students studying Dr. King and his efforts during the civil rights movement.
