Description

HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Based upon COVID-19 rates in Howard County, the Howard County Public School System has postponed the in-person start date for classes to Feb. 8. HCPSS also will not administer the PSAT Jan. 26. In-person small group programs may resume in February if the board of education approves health metrics that indicate students and staff may safely begin to return to school buildings. According to HCPSS Superintendent Michael J. Martirano, health metrics will be assessed each week. In July, it was determined that students would not return to in-person learning for the 2020-2021 school year. Students in all grade levels participate in four days of teacher-led class instruction each week, then complete assignments on the fifth day on their own. In addition to the core classes, fine arts classes at the elementary level and sectionals and GT seminars at the middle school level utilize live, teacher-led virtual instruction.
