NEWTOWN, CT — Gov. Ned Lamont has appointed Newtown Police Chief Jim Viadero to again servie on the Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council. The council oversees training and certification standards for police officers across the state.
Lamont signed a bill into law that broadened the diversity of POST to include police chiefs, municipal officials and community members. The governor and legislative leaders appoint members to the council and some state officials serve as ex-officio members.
Viadero served in the Bridgeport Police Department from 1985 to 2014 and was police chief in Middlebury in 2014 and 2015. He has been Newtown's police chief since 2016 and a member of the POST council since 2018.
