SANTA CRUZ, CA — A South Bay woman was arrested Monday afternoon after leading authorities on a two-county pursuit in a stolen van with an unsuspecting elderly dialysis patient aboard the vehicle according to the California Highway Patrol, The Santa Cruz Sentinel reports. The pursuit began in East San Jose after the suspect, identified 34-year-old Marlina Rose Adame, entered a medical transport van parked at a dialysis clinic and drove away, the CHP said. "Within just a few seconds, the woman walking by, jumps in the ambulance and steals it and takes off," CHP Officer Sam Courtney told The Sentinel. "They were able to ping that van and give us a location. It was reported on Highway 17, coming towards Santa Cruz." The CHP pinged the location of the van to Highway 17 headed toward Santa Cruz according to the report. Patrol units pursued the vehicle from the Granite Creek exit off Highway 17 to Ocean Street in Santa Cruz, the report said. The pursuit ended when Adame came to a stop at around 4 p.m. on Water Street near the Town Clock according to the CHP, the report said. The woman in the back of the van was not injured and was described as being in "really good spirits," according to the report, which indicated the woman may not have been aware that she was involved in a pursuit. Adame was arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, reckless evading and vehicle theft according to the report.
