LA GRANGE, IL — A 17-year-old girl walking near Lyons Township High School's North Campus on Wednesday morning was offered a ride by a man, according to a La Grange police news release.
About 9 a.m., the man drove up alongside the girl and asked whether she was a student, police said. She said she was.
The man then offered a ride, saying she would be late for class, police said. The girl denied the offer, and the man drove away in a "normal manner," according to the release.
The car was a black four-door sedan, police said. The driver was described as white and between 50 and 60.
The report was made shortly before 4 p.m., police said. "The sooner you call, the sooner the Police Department can investigate any leads/suspects," the release said.
The police department asked that parents take the opportunity to review stranger awareness with their children. If children find themselves in dangerous situations, police said, they should run to school or a familiar house and get help immediately.
