DUBLIN, CA — Sixty-two people at Santa Rita Jail in Dublin are sick with COVID-19, down from 98 cases at the jail as of Monday, Jan. 4.
That total includes 55 inmates, 48 of whom are asymptomatic, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office. Seven workers have tested positive for the coronavirus.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, Santa Rita Jail has administered 7,465 tests for the coronavirus, 484 of which came back positive.
About 370 inmates and 100 workers have recovered from COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic. Another 60 inmates who tested positive for the coronavirus were released from custody. Two inmates have been hospitalized.
There are currently about 2,130 inmates in Santa Rita Jail, down from 2,600 last March.
Countywide, some 68,600 COVID-19 cases have been reported over the past year and nearly 800 deaths have been linked to the coronavirus.
