WAKEFIELD, MA — A woman found dead in Wakefield was killed by her son, who was shot after charging officers with a knife, authorities said. Pamela Wood, 61, was found in the basement of her Otis Street home Tuesday morning, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said. Her son, 23-year-old Timothy Martin, of Manchester, NH, is in intensive care at the Lahey Clinic in Burlington. He is expected to be charged with his mother's murder, authorities said. Wood, a speech pathologist at Greenwood Elementary School, did not show up for a scheduled 8:30 a.m. appointment at the school, Ryan said. Administrators sent a school resource officer to check on Wood and notified her family, who could not get into the locked home and walked to the nearby police station for help. The Wakefield Fire Department pried open a back door, and police officers and firefighters began searching the home starting on the top floor. Firefighters found Wood's body, which had "multiple traumatic injuries," including some consistent with a knife, Ryan said. Officers responding to the basement encountered Martin, who was shot by two Wakefield officers after he ran at them with a knife over his head, authorities said. Police said there is no history of domestic violence in the home. Martin was not living there at the time of the murder.
