NORWOOD, MA — The Norwood Fire Department is starting 2021 with at least one major piece of new equipment — a new ambulance. The department announced on Tuesday that it received a new ambulance in December from North Attleboro-based Greenwood Emergency Vehicles. The fire department is waiting on mobile radios to be installed, but expects the new ambulance to be on the road by the end of January. The ambulance has an updated loading system that supports the cot inside the vehicle while it's being loaded and unloaded, making it safer for first responders and patients. The ambulance also has a Lucas Chest Compression Device, a LifePak 12 cardiac monitor, built-in UV disinfecting lights and a positive/negative pressure work area. "I'd like to thank Town Meeting members for supporting our continued efforts to update the department's aging fleet," Norwood Fire Chief George Morrice said. "This ambulance will be replacing an older Norwood ambulance and will ensure that we continue to have modern and state-of-the-art equipment at our disposal, allowing us to provide the best possible care to our community. We're looking forward to putting the new ambulance into service soon." The new ambulance will replace one of the department's older models.
