High Winds Trigger Peninsula Power Outage

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — High winds have toppled power lines, knocking out service to nearly 43,000 Bay Area customers Tuesday including close to 7,500 in the Peninsula, PG&E said. Winds gusts have reached over 80 mph in many parts of the Bay Area and have topped out close to 100 mph in Sonoma County according to the National Weather Service. The Bay Area is under a NWS wind advisory through 6 p.m. on Tuesday. The South Bay has been by far the hardest hit region, with 24,647 customers losing power as of 11 a.m. according to the utility company. On the Peninsula, 7,439 customers have lost power, PG&E said. Wind gusts in Santa Clara County were recorded at 81 mph at Mt. Umunhum according to the NWS. Winds topped out in Sonoma county 97 mph at Santa Fe Geothermal and at 96 mph at Forest Lake.
