Experienced birders will teach you how to identify and record your sightings for the 2021 Great Backyard Bird Count. Each February, for four days, the world comes together for the love of birds. Over these four days, we invite people to spend time in their favorite places watching and counting as many birds as they can find and reporting them to us. These observations help scientists better understand global bird populations before one of their annual migrations. Our experienced birders will share their field experience by teaching you how to identify birds in nature by sight and sound. They will also show you how to record your sightings using various techniques. After spending time with our experts, you will be able to conduct your own backyard count throughout this year's event. This is an outdoor experience so dress appropriately for the weather and be sure to wear sturdy shoes. If you have binoculars, please bring them, as we will not be sharing them due to COVID protocols. This event is limited to the first 20 respondents. Numbers could change depending on changing COVID concerns. Each participant will be screened upon arrival. If you are not feeling well, please don't come. Social distancing will be observed. A waiting list will be maintained.
