Description
NOVATO, CA — The city of Novato will celebrate its 61st birthday virtually Friday amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Novato City Birthday Party Committee produced a 30-minute video that will be shown during the event. The winners of the Novato Citizen of the Year and the first Pandemic Assistance Award will also be unveiled.
The committee, which usually hosts an in-person event often called the "Paint the Town Red Gala," planned a virtual way to commemorate the occasion and foster community spirit.
The show will be livestreamed on the Paint the Town Red YouTube channel and simulcast on Novato Community Television's Channel 26 starting at 6:30 p.m. NCTV will replay the show at noon Saturday, at 3 p.m. Sunday and at 8 p.m. Thursday on Channel 26.
This year the Citizen of the Year was notified of the award with a surprise knock on the front door and the award winner's reaction was filmed. The recipient of the Pandemic Assistance Award will recognize a Novato resident or business owner for services to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The event will also honor the Novato Chamber of Commerce Large and Small Businesses of the Year, the Police Department Employee of the Year and the Fire District Employee of the Year.
The show will include musical entertainment by local recording artists. In order to support local restaurants associated with the gala's "Taste of Novato" feature in the past, there will be live links on paintthetownred.org for viewers to order food usually served at the in-person celebration.
