JOLIET, IL — The Joliet Police Department announced that a 15-year-old boy has been charged in connection with a September shooting in the 800 block of Westminster Road that left a 28-year-old man injured. The juvenile was arrested Monday on charges of armed robbery and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to police.
The boy is being detained at the River Valley Justice Center, Joliet police said.
"Joliet Police Department detectives working this case identified the juvenile as a suspect after an extensive investigation," Tuesday's news release stated. "On January 18, 2021, detectives learned that this juvenile was in the custody of an area police department. Detectives traveled to this department and interviewed the juvenile in reference to this incident. After the interview, the juvenile was placed into custody without incident and detectives escorted him back to Joliet."
Back on Sept. 5, a 28-year-old man was approached by someone asking for change around 7:55 p.m. as he exited his girlfriend's house in the 800 block of Westminster Road. The man refused to provide the person with money, according to police.
Westminster Road is on the city's west side, near Black Road.
"The suspect approached the victim again, who was still in his vehicle, and announced a robbery. The suspect produced a firearm at which time the victim exited the vehicle and advised he did not have any money. The suspect then discharged the firearm multiple times striking the victim and his vehicle," Joliet police reports show.
The gunshot victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and the shooter got away before squad cars got to the house.
