75 Joliet Shooting Victims In 2020: Nearly Half On West Side

JOLIET, IL — In addition to 15 gun homicides in Joliet last year, another 60 people suffered non-fatal gunshot wounds across the city, according to data obtained from the Joliet Police Department. For many years, Joliet's east side was the hot spot for violent crime, but that is no longer the case anymore. Last year, 34 of Joliet's 75 gunshot victims, which is 45 percent, were shot on the city's west side. The third quarter of 2020, the months of July, August and September, were Joliet's most dangerous. Joliet police had 24 non-fatal shooting victims and six homicide victims during that three-month span. In comparison, Joliet police had 23 non-fatal shooting victims and eight homicide victims during the first six months of 2020. Violent crime has dropped dramatically across Joliet since November. In fact, Joliet's last homicide happened Oct. 26. Joliet had only two non-fatal shootings in November and only one in December. There have been no homicides yet this month. January of 2020 also had no homicides. The following Joliet police data provides dates, locations, ages and genders for all the non-fatal shootings as well as information for the city's 15 gun homicide victims from 2020.
