Every year, UM faculty, departments, grateful patients, friends, students, alumni, corporate partners, and others showcase their support by creating their own team within the Team Hurricanes family at the Dolphins Challenge Cancer (DCC). A few examples of these teams include: “Team Hurricanes – Sylvester Development”, “Team Hurricanes – Mack Cycle” and “Team Hurricanes – Law School”. "100% of the dollars raised at the Dolphins Challenge Cancer, go towards cancer research at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, and its that research that makes the difference. Everyone at Sylvester is dedicated to making the breakthroughs that will cure cancer and taking care of patients with the most sophisticated new techniques and treatments. Every day, we are developing new, more effective, non-toxic treatments -- ways of preventing cancer from occurring in the first place." Stephen D. Nimer, MD The DCC was founded in 2010 by the Miami Dolphins Organization as the signature initiative of the Foundation’s health impact area and has become the largest fundraising event in the NFL. The DCC’s purpose is to improve people’s lives through financial support for innovative cancer research at Sylvester, South Florida’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated cancer center. Sylvester is now among the top cancer centers in the United States and joins a highly select group as one of only two NCI-designated cancer centers in the state of Florida and one of just 71 across the nation. Since its inception, the DCC has raised more than $39.2 million, donating 100 percent of participant-raised funds to Sylvester.
