DAVIDSON, NC — Days after testing positive for COVID-19, Davidson Mayor Rusty Knox says he's feeling "a little bit better," as he urges everyone in the community to continue to follow public health guidelines to slow the spread of the virus. The news comes as community spread of COVID-19 continues in Davidson and throughout Mecklenburg County. As of Jan. 19, at least 1,058 known cases of coronavirus have been reported in Davidson since March, along with nine deaths, according to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. Knox began to feel unwell last week during a Board of Commissioners meeting, and by Friday, had tested positive, Cornelius Today reported. He's now resting at home with flu-like symptoms, the news outlet reported. "We did go out to eat occasionally and visited one or two retail establishments but have been pretty on point with following the 3W's," which include wearing a mask, washing hands frequently and waiting 6-feet apart. "With that being said, we still tested positive," he said. "It's vitally important to follow the guidelines and when it's your turn, take the vaccine," he added. "If we all work hard to follow the guidelines and get vaccinated, we could see the end of this terrible virus before too long." As of Tuesday, Jan. 19, North Carolina reported 4,058 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19, and at least 8,139 deaths since March attributed to the virus, according to DHHS.
