This will allow you to act rather than react. Scope: This performance level class provides an introduction to the foundational skills and knowledge pertinent identifying pre-incident indicators and cues potentially giving time and information to make the best decision you are able to prevent and deter your involvement in a potential violent situation. Overview: Why do you need situational awareness in today’s world? Situational awareness is the foundation of safety and security. How many times have you heard or read Statements like this after violent incident. “I never saw it coming” or “he came out of nowhere”Distraction, complacency and apathy are the leading reason many don’t see the indicators. Another reason people don't notice until it too late is they are looking for the Threat not the Indicators of threat. In many cases it’s too late when you see the knife, gun or other weapon. Situational awareness focuses understanding the elements within your environment, Understanding the meaning of these element's and their actions then analyzing that information to make a prediction of a future event. With that prediction you can now make a decision that could save your life and others This course utilizes the combined concepts of Kinesics, Biometrics, Proxemics, Geographic's, Iconography, and Atmospherics as measurements above or below a baseline to give you that critical information to make a potentially lifesaving decisions in an otherwise ambiguous environment. Learning Objectives: At the end of this course the learner will have a basic understanding the principles and concepts of situational awareness and threat detection. The learner will understand how to apply the principles to predict a future violent event and decide on actions prevent or deter the event. This exercise will combine the knowledge from the previous modules and tie them into functional task that the learner might have to perform when involved in a real life scenario. This exercise will also act as a final test for this unit of instruction. This exercise will be followed by a group After Action Review (AAR) Assessment Strategy: Learners will be assessed informally throughout this unit of instruction by questions and discussions during training modules. Learners will also be accessed through observation during the practical exercises. Learns may also be assessed by an end of course test depending on the needs of the training host.
