On January 6, 2021 at Schenectady Center, the large 240-bed nursing and rehabilitation facility on Altamonte Avenue in Schenectady, pharmacists from Walgreens vaccinated many of the staff and residents there with the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine. It was highly welcomed as almost 32 percent of the staff consented, seven to twelve percent higher than the national average of nursing home staff agreeing to be vaccinated. Schenectady Center resident Paul Zarelli, 78 years-old. Walgreens pharmacists are scheduled to return to Schenectady Center on January 27 for the second dosage. This second dosage is needed for 95 percent effectiveness.
