GROTON, CT — A Superior Court judge in Danielson was arrested Wednesday on charges that he was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, The Day reported. Former state Sen. Steven Spellman, 69, of 32 Cedar Lane in Noank, was seen leaving McQuade's Marketplace on Clara Drive at 6:12 p.m. and appeared to be intoxicated. The person calling police said Spellman stumbled over a curb and staggered to a car after throwing a bottle in a garbage can. Police located Spellman shortly after and brought him into custody.
