OAK LAWN, IL — Oak Lawn police officers were recognized for their life-saving efforts by the South Suburban Chiefs of Police Association. Sgt. Joseph Schmidt, Officer Scott O'Neil, Det. Daniel Wiora and Det. Christopher Fontaine quick actions were recognized regionally among police chiefs. On July 20, 2020, the officers prevented a woman from jumping from the top of the Metra parking tower. Chief Michael Jones, of the Matteson Police Department, and president of the SSCPA, stopped by the Oak Lawn Police Department to present the award. "Like so many officers across this country their selflessness and compassionate actions saved the life of a person in peril."
