Description

In January of 2009, at the request of the manager of our Starbuck's, I created a community service opportunity to help fulfill the newly elected President's challenge of committing to offer service and compassion. We gathered in the Starbuck's store and created sack lunches complete with notes of encouragement and kindness. I drove more than 200 lunches and divided them up between Morningstar Mission and DayBreak Shelter for the homeless clients they were feeding. Each year since we have raised our goal having completed more than 800 during the last two years and delivering lunches to multiple homeless shelters, senior centers here in Lemont, and to homes here in our community who are struggling and truly need the comfort and encouragement that these lunches contain. So will COVID stop this incredibly growing outreach that has nourished body and spirit? No way. Once again we will adjust and adapt to assist.Martin Luther King, Jr. is a perfect day to engage in service to our community and to exercise an opportunity to show compassion to those who are struggling to feel hope and love. What seems to be a small gesture has truly made an impact on those who feel alone, pained, and without hope."No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."Please join us in the challenge to rally 800 sack lunches that will warm a heart and lift a spirit.Details on flyer below.
