Essay Contest Winners Announced!

Connecticut students in grades 6-12 were invited to write an essay about a change they hoped to see in the world, and their plan to make it happen. Eliseo P. from Whitney Hall School in Hamden described how he planned to help mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus by taking personal responsibility. Eliseo described that he wears a mask, washes his hands and remains 6 feet from others. Eliseo won The Krista Hart Award. Aleksia K., from Corpus Christi School in Berlin, CT won The Stearn's J. Bryant, Jr. Award. Aleksia plans to be a pediatrician and help children reach their full potential. Currently in 8th grade, Aleksia, has donated thousands of dollars to a food bank. Aleksia raises the money on her Etsy shop. Daniel K, a 3rd grade student from Remote Learning Academy in Southington included a picture of an essential employee and thanked essential employees for their bravery and for staying up late to care for those who are ill. Each of the winners will receive $100 and a Pasta Supper for 6 to prepare at home, thanks to the essay contest sponsors; The Hamden Rotary Club Foundation, Angela Kitchen Sauces and The Children's Center of Hamden. The awards, named after Krista Hart and Stearns J. Bryant, Jr, are in tribute to their service on the Board of Directors at The Children's Center and all they do to help their communities. The Essential Employee award recognizes the Center's team of staff who have remained dedicated and caring throughout the pandemic. Congratulations to Eliseo, Aleksia and Daniel!
