ELMHURST, IL — Elmhurst saw its smallest weekly increase in coronavirus cases since early October, according to the latest numbers from the DuPage County Health Department. As of Sunday, the city experienced 103 new coronavirus cases in the last week, or a 3.2 percent increase, for a total of 3,372. That is down from the previous week's 5.6 percent. Since early October, the number of local coronavirus cases has more than tripled in Elmhurst. The number of those who have recovered is unavailable. As of Sunday, coronavirus-related deaths in Elmhurst since the pandemic's beginning was at 55, up one from a week before. As of Sunday, Illinois' coronavirus case count increased to 1,064,667, up 4 percent from a week earlier. The coronavirus has claimed the lives of 18,179 state residents. Nationally, 23.7 million people have caught the virus, up 7.5 percent from the week before. A total of 394,495 people have died from the virus in the United States.
