Free, 2-hour workshop to provide information on addiction for parents, teachers, and others working with and/or connected with youth.
The Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center in association with the PVAMU Houston Healthy Initiative is offering free, 2-hour workshops on a variety of topics related to substance use and misuse among teens.
This session will teach participants about risk and protective factors that contribute to the onset of substance use and misuse. Risk factors are those biological, psychological, family, community, and cultural factors that increase the probability of substance use, abuse, and dependence. Alternatively, protective factors reduce the probability of substance misuse or minimize the negative impact of risk factors. These factors may be fixed or variable over time, and at an individual, community, or society level. Participants also will learn about factors specific to adolescents and how these vary based on gender.
