Free, 2-hour workshop to provide information on addiction for parents, teachers, and others working with and/or connected with youth.
The Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center in association with the PVAMU Houston Healthy Initiative is offering free, 2-hour workshops on a variety of topics related to substance use and misuse among teens.
Substance Related and Addictive Disorders have a common causal mechanism in the Reward Pathways of our brain. In this workshop, participants learn about brain development, how brain cells communicate, how our brains are geared to survive, and how substances of abuse alter normal brain function. Participants also will learn: the association between choice and behavior; how the brain induces cravings; and, what makes the teen brain more vulnerable to addiction. An understanding of this information is crucial to later workshops on specific drugs of abuse.
