Description

Free, 2-hour workshop to provide information on addiction for parents, teachers, and others working with and/or connected with youth. The Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center in association with the PVAMU Houston Healthy Initiative is offering free, 2-hour workshops on a variety of topics related to substance use and misuse among teens. Attitudes about addiction hold powerful influence on our beliefs about psychoactive substances and addictive behaviors, governmental policy and laws voted into practice, choices regarding personal use and decisions regarding treatment. These attitudes are driven by our need to find a causal factor, our desire to place responsibility on someone or something, and our emotional response to those with addiction. In this session, participants examine specific models of addiction, their own personal beliefs about factors associated with use, misuse, and dependence, and the outcomes of the beliefs that they may hold. For more information about the Initiative, go to: https://www.pvamu.edu/cahs/healthy-houston/ PLEASE complete the pre-workshop survey before registration: https://pvamu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bdpLhUXoPRiY8Xr You will be provided a link to the Zoom webinar once registered.
