WESTFORD, MA — Westford Police Chief Tom McEnaney's last day is Jan. 23. After 35 years on the police department, McEnaney is retiring. The Select Board honored McEnaney for his years of service at their Tuesday meeting. McEnaney was hired in 1985 and had a career marked by many promotions, eventually promoted to police chief in 2008. "He has had a remarkable career, and he was thanked by all for his contributions," according to the Town Manager Jodi Ross. "We wish Tom the best in his retirement, and we hope to see him from time to time continuing to assist us when needed." McEnaney's retirement, means the town will have to find someone to replace him. The Select Board approved Ross's request to appoint Deputy Police Chief Mark Chambers as the Provisional Police Chief effective Jan. 24. Two Select Board members and a resident will participate in the process to promote the search for a new chief. Anyone interested in participating can fill out a Citizen Activity Form online before Feb. 4, and the board will select a resident to participate at their Feb. 9 meeting. A request for proposals for a firm to conduct a Police Chief Assessment Center was released Thursday. Proposal documents may be viewed online by visiting the town's Bid Postings website.
