Salem Police To Add Patrols Ahead Of Presidential Inauguration

SALEM, MA —While Salem police said there were no specific threats as of Friday afternoon to the city of Salem in the wake of last week's attack on the U.S. Capitol, they are planning additional patrols on duty through Inauguration Day. Salem police told Patch the department has "open lines of communications with state and federal agencies about the ongoing situation and safety concerns associated with the inauguration." Police said there have been "general threats" made throughout the nation — primarily aimed at state capital buildings. "Nevertheless, Salem police will have additional teams of officers on duty from this weekend through and including Inauguration day, specifically to closely monitor activity around government buildings and other critical infrastructure facilities," police told Patch. Residents are asked to report suspicious activity to the Salem Police Department at 978-744-1212. "Be especially aware during the current climate of generalized threats to commit acts of vandalism or violence against local and state government institutions," police said.
