NEW YORK CITY — New York City's class of 2020 ended high school amid coronavirus pandemic's worst days, but more of them donned caps and gowns than ever. Mayor Bill de Blasio on Thursday congratulated the class for hitting a 78.8 percent four-year graduation rate. "The highest graduation rate in the history of New York City," he said. Chancellor Richard Carranza echoed the congratulations. He said the city's goal is to reach 86 percent by 2026 to surpass the nation's graduation rate. The city's graduation rates have risen 10 percent since 2014, officials said. Rates also increased in all boroughs, with the Bronx hitting 73 percent. The city's drop out rate is down to 5.8 percent, officials said.
