WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Joe Biden has nominated New York City's emergency department commissioner Deanne Criswell to serve in his administration.
Criswell would be the Federal Emergency Management Agency administrator, the Associated Press reported. She previously spent five years in FEMA during the Obama administration.
She is the first woman nominated to head the agency, which coordinate responses to national disasters.
Criswell has been the city's emergency management commissioner since June 2019.
"The American people deserve leaders like Deanne Criswell," Mayor Bill de Blasio in a statement.
