ROOSEVELT, NY — A Roosevelt man and his girlfriend were both indicted for their roles in the murder of a man in broad daylight in October 2020. Isaiah Cust, 30, was arraigned on Jan. 7 on one count of second-degree murder. He was remanded into custody and is due back in court on Jan. 29. If convicted, he could face life in prison. Ashley Munroe, 27, of Hempstead, was arraigned on Jan. 14 on second-degree hindering prosecution. She was released on her own recognizance and is also due back in court on Jan. 29. If convicted, she could face up to four years in prison. "Isaiah Cust is accused of stabbing Jalil Burton to death in broad daylight on a Roosevelt street," said Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas. "Jalil Burton was a young father with his entire life in front of him. My office is committed to holding the defendants responsible for their senseless actions." According to Singas, around 10 a.m. on Oct. 25, Cust stabbed 27-year-old Jalil Burton multiple times during a fight outside a home on Brookside Avenue in Roosevelt. After the fight, which Singas said Munroe saw, Cust fled in Munroe's car. Burton was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he later died from his wounds. Cust was arrested at his mother's home on Nov. 3. Munroe surrendered herself to police on Nov. 3.
