MARC Cancels Train Service Around Inauguration

BALTIMORE, MD — The MARC train will not be in service from Sunday to Wednesday, according to the Maryland Transit Administration (MTA). Suspension of train service is part of the efforts to expand security around the inauguration of President-Elect Joe Biden. The Penn, Camden and Brunswick lines will be out of service Sunday, Jan. 17, through Wednesday, Jan. 20, the MTA announced Friday. The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority reported Wednesday that 13 metro stations will be closed in the days surrounding the Jan. 20 inauguration. Station closures and bus detours will be in place from Friday, Jan. 15, to Thursday, Jan. 21, due to an expanded security perimeter in the D.C. metro area. Officials have urged residents to avoid downtown D.C. around Inauguration Day. Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam issued a joint statement encouraging Americans to watch the ceremony virtually and avoid traveling to D.C. due to the coronavirus pandemic and possible violence after the Jan. 6 insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.
