Description
Press release from the City of Millbrae: January 14, 2021 As of January 13, 2021, San Mateo County Health has reported 30,196 total positive cases of COVID-19, with 9,778 of those occurring within the last 30 days. The State of California is still reporting the Bay Area region's ICU availability at 4.7%. San Mateo County's risk level continues to be widespread (purple tier). Because of this, many non-essential indoor business operations remain closed. San Mateo County is currently vaccinating according to the State of California's Phase 1a guidelines with three tier categories of recipients. These include health care workers and residents of long-term care facilities. The California Department of Public Health defines health care workers as "Persons at risk of exposure to SARS-CoV-2 through their work in any role in direct health care or long-term care settings. This population includes persons at direct risk of exposure in their non-clinical roles, such as, but not limited to, environmental services, patient transport, or interpretation." Phase 1a recipients include: Acute care, psychiatric and correctional facility hospitals (Tier 1) Skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and similar settings for older or medically vulnerable individuals (Tier 1) Paramedics, EMTs and others providing emergency medical services (Tier 1) Dialysis centers (Tier 1) Intermediate care facilities for persons who need non-continuous nursing supervision and supportive care (Tier 2) Home health care and in-home supportive services (Tier 2) Community health workers, including promotoras with public exposure (Tier 2) Public health field staff (Tier 2) Primary Care clinics, including Federally Qualified Health Centers, Rural Health Centers, correctional facility clinics, and urgent care clinics (Tier 2) Specialty clinics (Tier 3) Laboratory workers (Tier 3) Dental and other oral health clinics (Tier 3) Pharmacy staff not working in settings at higher tiers (Tier 3) During this first phase of vaccine distribution, adults with high-risk medical conditions and older adults over the age of 75 may be given the vaccine. Eventually there will be enough vaccine for everyone who lives in San Mateo County, and we are laying the foundation now to make access as easy as possible. San Mateo County Health will coordinate the allocation of the vaccine to facilities within the county. They have partnered with the hospitals, clinics, and care facilities throughout the county to ensure they are positioned to be able to administer the vaccine to their staff and residents. Throughout the pandemic, Millbrae residents have done a great job in slowing the spread of COVID-19. Please continue to follow social distancing and prevention measures such as remembering the 3 W's to reduce the risk of COVID-19: Wear a mask Wash your hands Watch your distance To read more about the State of California's response and data, please visit https://covid19.ca.gov/.
