BURR RIDGE, IL — In recent days, Burr Ridge police took care of cases involving a suspicious duo, dogs at large, popping sounds and stolen mail. Here is information from the latest police reports: Suspicious duo A resident in the 6500 block of Elm Street told police about 8 p.m. Tuesday that two men knocked on his door, saying they pinged a cell phone to the resident's address. The resident informed the men that the phone was not at his home, and they departed. An officer found the men in a 2001 Chevrolet. During a "consensual" contact, one of the men confirmed he spoke with the resident, but he found his phone in his car shortly after. The man was staying at SpringHill Suites in Burr Ridge. No criminal activity was seen. Dogs at large A resident in the 11700 block of Woodside Court told police she saw an Australian shepherd with no tail in front of her house about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. When an officer arrived, the dog was gone. The resident said it had run south on Woodside Lane. The officer searched the area, but could not find the dog. A resident in the 8000 block of Garfield Avenue told police Wednesday that a black dog was running around his condo complex. The resident said the owner lives on Pine Tree Lane and that the owner had been cited for these types of problems before. The dog's owner admitted to an officer that his dog got loose and ran around the neighborhood. He was cited on a charge of having a dog at large. Popping sounds and laughter A resident in the 6700 block of Fieldstone Drive showed an officer video footage of a group of people running out of a red SUV parked across the street, followed by popping sounds and laughter. The people ran back to the SUV and drove toward Plainfield Road. Officers were unable to find the vehicle. The incident happened about 10 p.m. Jan. 9. Mail stolen A resident on Pine Tree Lane told police Tuesday that someone took personal checks and Christmas cards out of his mailbox Dec. 17. None of the stolen checks were cashed, and there had been no suspicious activity on his account. The resident said he wanted the incident documented. Not liking school A woman on Erin Lane told police Wednesday that her son refused to go to school. Two officers spoke with the son and told him about the consequences of not attending school. The boy agreed to go to school.
