SOUTHFIELD, MI — The Oakland County Sheriff's Office is investigating after a Southfield Police Officer shot a man while investigating a stolen vehicle, the department said Friday morning. According to police, a Southfield Police Officer early Friday morning was investigating a stolen vehicle at Marvin's Garden Inn, 27650 Northwestern. The officer saw a man begin walking toward the vehicle, prompting the officer to turn on his cruiser lights and get out of his cruiser, police said. The officer told the man to step away from the vehicle but was ignored, according to police. The man then got into the vehicle and drove at the officer, police said. The officer shot several times at the vehicle before it the man drove away, police said. Detroit Police later in the morning contacted the Southfield Police Department after a man visited a local hospital with gunshot wounds and saying he'd been shot by police, according to officers. Police later determined the man in the hospital was the same as the person who drove the vehicle art the officer, police said. The man had non-life-threatening injuries and has been released from the hospital, according to police. He is now lodged at the Southfield Jail, police said. Officers said having the Oakland County Sheriff's Office investigate the officer-involved shooting is protocol.
