Northport Mayor Released After Being Hospitalized For Coronavirus

NORTHPORT, AL — Northport Mayor Bobby Herndon was released from the hospital Friday after being admitted to DCH Northport last Sunday for coronavirus symptoms and blood clots. Herndon, 67, provided the community with updates via Facebook throughout the week and posted on Friday that after a round of treatment and medications, his oxygen levels were "great" and he would be heading home. A week ago, it was Herndon's wife Kay who was released from the hospital following a lengthy stay of her own after testing positive for the virus. Herndon would then test positive, resulting in his hospitalization just days after her release. "Thank you to the ones that have been checking on Kay and bringing food to the house," he said via Facebook. "Not because I am the mayor of the city of the hospital that has been my home for the last several days but because I see first hand the dedication of the medical professionals that serve there I proclaim you the best anywhere! I have that authority ... You guys risk yourselves in service to others unselfishly. To the staff and all the travel professionals thank you for choosing Northport. You make our city proud." The day before his release, Herndon was also vocal on social media about the seriousness of the coronavirus, pointing out that on Tuesday alone there were 4,000 virus-related deaths in the United States. "This disease is not a hoax even though some still think so," he said. "Please pray for understanding that this virus is a threat to everyone."
