Guy needs some computer help

I have a laptop that the battery stopped holding a charge so for the past year or so I have had to work on it with it plugged in. No big deal until the other day when it would not power up and will not start. Does anybody know a way to get it to start up again at least once so I can transfer files from it to a new laptop? You can come here to work on it or I can bring it to you. Thanks
