BRADENTON, FL — One of the men injured in a gas leak explosion and fire that destroyed his family's Bradenton home in early December has died. The death of Adrian Lopez Jr. was announced on a GoFundMe campaign to assist the Lopez family. He died Wednesday around noon at Largo Medical Center, succumbing to the injuries he sustained in the Dec. 3 blast. His father, Adrian Lopez Sr., was also injured in the fire and explosion. "The Lopez family is currently processing and grieving the death of Mr. Adrian Lopez Jr.," Stephanie Romine, marketing coordinator for Czaia Law. The law firm has been assisting the family since the fire and will provide additional updates about the family Friday, she said. Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue and TECO gas originally responded to reports of a natural gas leak in the 2900 block of 9th Street West Dec. 3. While they were searching for the source of the leak, the explosion occurred at 804 29th Ave. West. Since Cedar Hammock already had fire units in the area, firefighters quickly repositioned their equipment to battle the blaze, Chief Kyle Bradshaw said. The community rallied around the Lopez family following the explosion. More than $16,000 was raised to assist them through GoFundMe. Additional funds are needed to help pay for the funeral of Adrian Jr. Like what you're reading? Invite a friend to subscribe to free Bradenton newsletters and real-time email alerts.
