Your Arlington Last Updated: 14 January 2021 Written by Michele Meagher Many of you have asked for a program that helps us know what steps we need to take to ensure that our legal affairs are where we want them to be. That includes a power of attorney, health-care proxy, ensuring that our legacy will go where we want it. Join us at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, with "Estate Planning 101: The Basics of Legacy Planning," with David Adams, at right. Good estate planning allows us to maximize financial resources for our best possible lives, as well as to make a meaningful difference in the lives of our loved ones, including after our death. With a bit of humor, Adams, an Arlington resident and attorney, of Pathway Law, will provide an overview of key estate-planning areas. These include planning for end-of-life health care, not burdening our loved ones with the costs and headaches of court-supervised probate, minimizing estate taxes (often by between $70,000 and $120,000), thoughtful ways to leave an inheritance for beneficiaries facing various life challenges, and ultimately how to leave a meaningful legacy, no matter the size of your estate. The Zoom webinar will include several common (and costly) mistakes to avoid. It will also cover the key estate planning tools: wills, trusts, powers of attorney, health care proxies and advance directives. YourArlington.com has provided news and opinion about Arlington, Mass., since 2006. Publisher Bob Sprague is a former editor at The Boston Globe, Boston Herald and Arlington Advocate.
