NEWARK, NJ — Cinema fans clamoring to watch the highly anticipated Sopranos prequel movie, "The Many Saints of Newark" will have to wait a little bit longer, reports say. The movie's release is being pushed back to Sept. 24, 2021, about a year after its original release date. It was previously delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, Variety.com reported. The new release date is likely not due to the current pandemic surge, however, as Warner Bros. plans to release all its 2021 films in theaters and on HBO Max simultaneously to prevent further delays, Entertainment Weekly stated. Unnamed sources told Variety.com that the new release date will allow "The Many Saints of Newark" to get a better position for film festivals and awards. Filming for the movie took place in New York City and North Jersey, including in Essex County, which was a frequent stomping ground for the award-winning HBO show.
