All Discover Diablo hikes are subject to, and will honor, all applicable COVID-19–related restrictions in place for our area. Join us on Save Mount Diablo’s stunning Curry Canyon Ranch on an exploration of the 3 B’s of June – birds, bees, and blooms! We’ll hike up to Frog Pond Road and enjoy the beautiful array of birds, butterflies, and blooms along the way. We may see Bullock's Oriole, Brown-headed Cowbird, Black-throated Gray Warbler, Rufous-crowned Sparrow, Orange-crowned Warbler and Lazuli Bunting. Butterflies - Skippers, Blues, Swallowtails, Hairstreaks and Checkerspots. Blooms - Scarlet Monkeyflower, Clarkias, Flax, Cream Sacs and Mariposa Lilies. Be sure to bring plenty of water, a snack, and dress in layers. Sturdy shoes or hiking boots are recommended. Heavy rain cancels. Due to COVID-19, we are limiting the hike to 8 participants. All participants must bring a mask and stay 6ft apart. Hand sanitizer will be available at the hike. Participants will also be required to accept our COVID-19 Protocol (available during registration). Land: Save Mount Diablo Rating: Easy Distance: 3 miles Elevation change: 300’ Leader: Dan Fitzgerald, Save Mount Diablo Hike Volunteer Meet: Park & Ride at 1000 Peacock Creek Drive at the intersection of Clayton Road and Peacock Creek Drive in Clayton, CA. We will carpool to the property. Directions: From I-680 North or downtown Walnut Creek, head east on Ygnacio Valley Road; continue on Ygnacio Valley Road for 7.5 miles. Make a right onto Clayton Road and continue on Clayton Road for 2 miles. Take a left onto Peacock Creek Drive; the parking lot will be on your first right. (Photo by Scott Hein) FAQs Are dogs allowed on Discover Diablo hikes? No. Some Discover Diablo hikes take place on land owned by other organizations (such as Mount Diablo State Park & East Bay Regional Park lands) and many of the trails on these properties have a strict no-dog policy. Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? Anyone under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No. On the hike day, we will have a roster with your registration information on it. Please make sure to check in with the hike leader. Can I update my registration information? Yes.
