PITTSBURGH, PA —The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette will eliminate its Friday print edition at the end of February, leaving readers with print versions of the increasingly digital publication on just Thursday and Sunday. The Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh announced the move via Twitter, sharing a letter from P-G human resources and labor relations business partner Carolyn Rice to union head Ed Blazina. The last Friday print edition will be Feb. 26.The P-G eliminated its Tuesday and Saturday editions in August 2018 and in September 2019 stopped printing on Mondays and Wednesdays. "These actions by the company are part of the company's entrepreneurial and First Amendment decisions to deliver our news content exclusively through digital platforms," Rice wrote in the letter.The union, which has been locked in contentious contract negotiations with newspaper owner Block Communications, criticized the move. In a tweet, the union noted that similar cutbacks have occurred at The Blade, a Toledo newspaper also owned by Block.
