JOLIET, IL — On Wednesday, Will County Circuit Judge Vincent Cornelius sentenced Ronald Meimers to 11 years prison in connection with the 57-year-old Joliet man's 10th DUI conviction. Meimers, who lived in the 2300 block of White Birch Lane, recently pleaded guilty to aggravated driving under the influence, a Class X felony.
The Illinois State Police arrest that led to Meimers' 10th DUI conviction occurred during the late hours of April 13, 2019. The intoxicated Joliet man was driving his silver Hyundai along the southbound stretch of Interstate 55 near milepost 261 in Plainfield, according to a criminal complaint.
Meimers faced between six and 60 years of imprisonment, according to the Will County State's Attorney's Office. Meimers was represented by attorney Amy Christiansen of the Will County Public Defender's Office. He has remained in the Will County Jail since the night of his arrest, unable to make 10 percent of his $1 million bail.
Prior to his 10th DUI charge, Meimers had spent about six years incarcerated with the Illinois Department of Corrections following his 9th DUI arrest and conviction, Will County court files show.
According to his 2019 complaint, Meimers' nine prior DUIs occurred on the following dates:
