ASU Police Officer Dies In Motorcycle Crash

TEMPE, AZ — An Arizona State University police officer was killed in a motorcycle crash near Mill and Southern Avenues Wednesday afternoon, police said. The Tempe Police Department said in a news release that officers responded to a crash involving a motorcycle and a car just before 4 p.m. Officials said the motorcycle was heading north on Mill when the car turned left in front of it. Speed is believed to be a factor in the collision. The ASU Police Department confirmed Thursday morning that the motorcyclist was Officer Joseph Montgomery. Montgomery died from his injuries sustained in the crash. It is with heavy hearts and deep sorrow that we confirm the passing of Officer Joseph Montgomery, following a motorcycle accident this morning. He is a 13 year veteran of this department, and is survived by his wife and two kids. He is survived by his wife and four children. Tempe police said an investigation is underway. The driver of the car was not injured in the crash.
