WAKEFIELD, MA — A Wakefield man was arrested Tuesday after barricading himself inside an apartment on Richardson Avenue. The 31-year-old was initially suspected of assaulting a neighbor at his apartment complex, police said.
When officers responded to the scene, he barricaded himself in his unit and made threats toward law enforcement, police said.
The man was taken into custody around 6:30 p.m. with the help of the Wakefield Police Department's mental health clinician and the Northeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council.
No injuries were reported.
"We're grateful that what could have been a very volatile situation was swiftly and peacefully resolved," Police Chief Steven Skory said. "Thanks to the negotiation efforts of the Wakefield Police Department and NEMLEC we were able to bring this incident to a close."
