NEW YORK CITY – Cameras targeting parked cars and delivery trucks that block New York City's bike lanes could be introduced by the city council. NY1 reported that officials are considering a system similar to the one that polices bus only lanes, in which violators caught on camera can be issued tickets. The move is being considered in reaction to nearly 18,000 complaints about vehicles parked in bike lanes in 2019, NY1 reported. Numbers dropped significantly last year because of coronavirus restrictions, the news channel reported. "I think it's something we're going to give some serious thought to going forward," acting Transportation Commissioner Margaret Forgione said, according to NY1. "I definitely want to acknowledge that we seek to do better, as a city, in terms of enforcement to keep people safer."
